Hand it back
without the bill.

Leasing companies inspect returned vehicles against the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear standard, and recharge anything beyond it at bodyshop rates with an administration fee on top. We repair that damage on your driveway first, usually for a good deal less than the recharge.

What gets recharged

Typically chargeable, typically not

Every leasing company applies the standard slightly differently, so treat this as a guide rather than a guarantee. If you're unsure, send us photos and we'll give you an honest view before you spend anything.

Usually recharged

  • Scratches through the paint beyond the permitted length
  • Kerbed or scuffed alloy wheel rims
  • Dents on a panel above the allowed size
  • Scuffed bumpers and mirror casings
  • Chips on the bonnet and front wings in clusters
  • Damaged textured plastic trim

Usually accepted as fair wear

  • Light polishable surface marks
  • Very small stone chips on leading edges
  • Normal tyre and brake dust staining
  • Minor wear consistent with mileage

Lease return questions

What is the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear standard?
It's the industry guide leasing companies use to decide what counts as acceptable wear and what gets recharged. It sets out things like the size of scratch that's tolerated and how much kerbing a wheel can carry before it's chargeable.
When should I book?
Around four to six weeks before your return date. That leaves time to inspect, repair and, if anything needs a second visit, sort it without rushing.
Is repairing cheaper than the recharge?
Usually, yes, a leasing company charges bodyshop rates plus an administration fee for damage we can repair on your driveway in a few hours. We'll tell you if something genuinely isn't worth repairing.
Do you repair alloys for lease returns?
Yes. Kerbed wheels are one of the most commonly recharged items, and we cover painted, machined and diamond cut wheels with our mobile lathes.
Will the repair be obvious to the inspector?
No. Repairs are colour matched to your paint code and blended into the panel, finished with infrared cured lacquer and polished back to the original gloss.
